Nerve and Tendon Webinar

Presented by: Sami Tuffaha, M.D.
Assistant Professor

Date: August 16, 2023 12pm EST
Description: Nerve transfers and hyperselective neurectomy (HSN) have emerged as a promising surgical approaches to restore motor function and reduce spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). These newer treatment options offer complementary benefits to the longer standing surgical interventions that include tendon transfer and tendon lengthening. Contemporary management of paralysis and spasticity arising from SCI should ideally be delivered by fully integrated, muti-disciplinary teams capable of tailoring personalized, holistic treatment plans derived from the full armamentarium of surgical and non-surgical options.
Learning objectives:
  1. Understand the physiologic bases of nerve transfers and HSN
  2. Understand the indications, pre-operative work-up, post-operative rehabilitation requirements and reported outcomes for nerve transfers and HSN
  3. Understand the pros/cons and complementary nature of nerve and tendon based surgical options for SCI
  4. Learn the basic framework for developing a multi-disciplinary treatment approach to address functional deficits arising from SCI
