2024 SCI Review Course
The SCI Review Course provides attendees with a comprehensive approach to practicing managing, and rehabilitating spinal cord injuries, addressing both physical and psychological aspects, and catering to diverse populations affected by SCI.
Learning Objectives:
- Review and discuss the normal anatomy and physiology of the spinal cord to interpret the basis of spinal cord injuries (SCI) and their effects.
- List the various nontraumatic myelopathies, including their causes, symptoms, and management strategies.
- Interpret the prevalence, causes, and trends of spinal cord injuries to inform prevention and treatment strategies.
- Explore how SCI affects endocrine and metabolic functions and how to manage these dysfunctions.
- Articulate the role of nutrition and immune system factors in SCI and how to support overall health in affected individuals.
- Review the unique aspects of spinal cord disorders in children and adolescents and their specific treatment needs.
- Explore the psychosocial challenges faced by individuals with SCI and strategies to support adjustment and mental health.
- Illustrate the impact of SCI on sexual function and fertility, and approaches to manage these issues.
- Discuss musculoskeletal complications and pain management strategies for individuals with SCI.
- Review techniques and approaches for restoring upper extremity function in individuals with tetraplegia.
- List the prevention and management of pressure injuries in individuals with SCI.
- Assess the complexities and management strategies when SCI is accompanied by brain injury.
- Explore effective rehabilitation practices for improving function and quality of life in individuals with SCI.
- Discuss and identify the causes and management of spasticity in individuals with SCI.
- Identify respiratory complications of SCI and strategies for their management.
